Batteries

Alkaline batteries
All dead alkaline batteries can be thrown away in your municipal trash. Tape each end of the battery with CLEAR packing tape to prevent a charge from being transferred to other items in the waste stream, and preventing fires from occurring on waste trucks and sorting facilities.

Button, lithium ion, rechargeable, and nickel cadmium batteries
These batteries are considered hazardous waste and must be brought to any Jefferson County Clean Sweep. **Details on these events can be found on the Solid Waste/Clean Sweep/Recycling home page.**

Automotive
Automotive batteries can be brought to any appliance and electronic collection event. **Details on these events can be found on the Solid Waste/Clean Sweep/Recycling home page.**

They can also be brought to any O’Reilly Auto Parts store. A $10 gift card will be offered for every automotive battery brought in.
