JEFFERSON — Overall per diems and expenses for members of the Jefferson County Board of Supervisors dropped for a third consecutive year, a report presented to supervisors shows.

Salaries, meeting fees and other expenses for board members totaled $120,893 in 2018, down from $123,606 a year earlier. The total costs generally have been sliding since 2013 and could drop even more in the future if the board decides to reduce its membership from 30 in the future.

In addition to the payments to supervisors, a number of citizens who serve on boards also receive meeting and expense payments. Those totaled $12,998.93.

The largest payment to a county supervisor was made to Jim Schroeder, chairman of the county board. He is paid a salary of $6,600 and, as chairman, also attends many of the committee meetings. His total compensation, including the salary, was $9,959.04.

Supervisors generally receive a salary of $660, plus a per diem for meetings attended and other expenses such as mileage, meals, etc.
