Jefferson County Solid Waste/Air Quality Committee and Jefferson County Drug Free Coalition are proud to announce that Johnson Creek has a drug drop-off box located in their Police Department at 119 Depot Street.  The hours of operation are Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Jefferson County Drug Free Coalition received a grant allowing them to pay $700 for a drug box.  The cost of a drug box is $1,000 so the Jefferson County Solid Waste/Air Quality Committee paid the remaining $300.  Police Chief Bleecker agreed to have the drug drop-off box placed in his Department.  JWR of Johnson Creek made the box as well as all the boxes in Jefferson County Police Departments and Sheriff’s Office.  The other drug drop-off boxes were either donated or sponsored by Watertown Regional Medical Center, Fort Memorial Hospital, JWR, Johns’ Disposal, Jefferson County Drug Free Coalition or Jefferson County Solid Waste/Air Quality Committee.  Jefferson County now has a drug drop-off box in each of its police departments and the Sheriff’s Office for a total of ten boxes.  We are one of the few counties in the state to have proper drug disposal in all our Police Departments and Sheriff’s Office.  Residents in Jefferson County will have a drug drop-off box within ten miles of their home for convenient drug disposal.

Remember to empty your prescription or over the counter medications (pills) in sandwich size plastic bags.  All medications can be mixed up in the same bag.  DO NOT put pill containers in our drug drop-off boxes.  Put empty pill containers in your recycle bin at your residence.  Keep liquids in their original containers, but tape the lid or wrap in plastic wrap before placing in a drug drop-off box.  Inhalers can be put into a drug drop-off box. Do Not put sharps, mercury thermometers or other medical equipment in the drug drop-off boxes.   Take sharps to your local Health Department, hospital or clinic.  Mercury thermometers or devices should be taken to Clean Sweep events.

More information regarding the locations and hours for the individual drug drop off sites is available at the Jefferson County Solid Waste webpage at www.jeffersoncountywi.gov/cleansweep or by contacting Sharon Ehrhardt at 920-674-7430.
