Full ballot for primary election Tuesday

On Tuesday, Jefferson County-area electors will be going to the polls to cast ballots in partisan primary elections for federal, state and county positions. In addition, those in the Waterloo School District will be voting on two referendum questions regarding updating the high school.

Because this is a partisan primary, voters cannot cross party lines. If one chooses a party, votes cast only or candidates in that party will be counted. If one does not choose a party, but votes for candidates in more than one party, no votes will be counted whatsoever.

GovernorTopping the ballot among the Wisconsin primaries are those for governor. Republican incumbent Scott Walker is being challenged in his party by Robert Meyer.

The Democrats, meanwhile, have 10 candidates on the ballot: Andy Gronik, Matt Flynn, Tony Evers, Josh Pade, Mike McCabe, Maylon Mitchell, Kelda Helen Roys, Paul Soglin, Kathleen Vinehouse and Dana Wachs. While Gronik and Wachs have dropped out of the race, their names remain on the ballot.

Michael White is the gubernatorial candidate in the Wisconsin Green Party and Phillip Anderson is the candidate for the Libertarian Party.

Lieutenant governor

Republican Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch is unopposed in this primary. Democratic primary candidates are Karl Kober and Mandela Barnes, while the Libertarian primary hopeful is Patrick Baird and Green Party candidate is Tiffany Anderson.

State treasurer

Republicans in the primary for state treasurer are Travis Hartwig and Jill Millies. In the Democratic primary, Dawn Marie Sass, Cythia Kaump and Sarah Godlewski are on the ballot. The Constitution Party primary canddiate is Andrew Zuelke.

Attorney general

Republican Attorney General Brad Schimel is unopposed in his party for a new term. The Democratic primary candidate is Josh Kaul and the Constitution Party candidate is Terry Larson.

Secretary of state

Democratic Secretary of State Doug La Follette is being challenged in his party’s primary by Arvina Martin. In the Republican primary, candidates are Jay Schroeder and Spencer Zimmerman.

State Senate

State Senate District 13 incumbent Scott Fitzgerald is unopposed in the Republican primary for his seat. On the ballot in the Democrats’ primary is Michelle Zahn.

Democratic state Senate District 15 incumbent Janis Ringhand is the sole candidate for her primary. There is no Republican primary.

In the 11th state Senate District, incumbent Steve Nass is unopposed in the Republican primary. There is no Democratic primary.

State Assembly

In the 33rd state Assembly District, Republican incumbent Cody Horlacher is unopposed in his party’s primary. Brandon White is the Democratic Party primary candidate.

For the 37th state Assembly District, incumbent John Jagler is on the ballot in the Republican primary. There is no Democratic primary.

For the state Assembly District 38 seat being vacated by Joel Kleefisch, Barbara Dittrich is the Republican primary candidate and Melissa Winker is the Democratic primary candidate.

In the state Assembly District 43, Gabriel Szerlong is running in the Republican primary and incumbent Don Vruwink is the sole candidate in the Democratic primary.

Jefferson County

 
 

Republican primaries are being held for Jefferson County sheriff and the clerk of courts. Incumbent Paul Milbrath and Cindy R. Hamre Incha are on the ballot for those posts, respectively. No Democratic primaries are being held for the county jobs.

House of Representatives

Moving on to the U.S. House of Representatives, District 5 incumbent Rep. F. James (Jim) Sensenbrenner is being challenged by Jennifer Hoppe Vipond in the Republican primary. Paul Palzewicz is running for in the Democratic primary.

In the 1st Congressional District, where Republican incumbent and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is not seeking a new term, primary candidates are Democrats Cathy Myers and Randy Bryce. In the Republican primary, candidates on the ballot are Jeremy Ryan, Paul Nehlen, Kevin Adam Steen, Brad Bolvin, Bryan Steil and Nick Polce.

U.S. Senate

The lone candidate in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate is incumbent Tammy Baldwin. Republicans on the ballot in their primary are George Lucia, Leah Vukmir, Griffin Jones, Kevin Nicholson and Charles Barman.

The winner of all political parties’ primaries will face off in the Nov. 6 general election.

Waterloo school referendums

Waterloo School District voters will face two referendum questions when they go to the polls on Tuesday.

The first question seeks authorization to borrow $7.3 million to bring the school building up to code and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); add a restroom at the elementary school; renovate restrooms and locker rooms; upgrade heating, ventilation and air conditioning; address storm water issues; replace a portion of the roof; replace some windows and upgrade security and doors.

The second question seeks authorization to borrow $8.9 million to add new physical education/gymnasium space, along with storage, new restrooms and additional locker room, expand the community fitness center, enlarge the student dining area with a third cafeteria serving line and improve parking and storm water issues.

Voting hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m throughout the State of Wisconsin on Tuesday.
