The office of the Jefferson County District Attorney is responsible for the prosecution of all offenses that the statutes have assigned responsibility to the district attorney. The various provisions and types and kinds of offenses and enforcement are numerous. In general, the district attorney has the authority to prosecute all state crimes that occur within the county as well as traffic and county ordinance offenses that are issued by the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Jefferson County Sheriff. The district attorney is a quasi-judical officer who has the responsibility to seek justice and not simply convictions. The District Attorney is a state employee who is locally elected to serve the citizens of Jefferson County. The office of the District Attorney is designed and dedicated to assist the district attorney in ensuring that those responsibilities are met.

Mission Statement:

To act with due diligence in the prosecution of persons who violate the laws of the State of Wisconsin and County of Jefferson, in order that the citizens who reside here, and their guests, are afforded the liberties given to them by the Constitutions of the United States and State of Wisconsin.
