Purpose: The Jefferson County Parks Department will be providing an opportunity for first time hunters aged 10-14 years old to participate in a limited season gun deer hunt in portions of Dorothy Carnes County Park. The hunt will take place during the specified Wisconsin Gun Deer Hunt from November 17th – 25th, 2012. The week will be split into two periods with one hunter hunting during each 4 day period with one day off in the middle. The periods are broken down as follows: Period 1 – November 17-20Period 2 – November 22-25 Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible for participation in this hunt, applicants must: Be age 10 by November 17, 2012Have parental/guardian consent if under age 18.Have not previously participated in a youth or learn to hunt program. Have not been issued a deer gun license in 2011 or previous years. Each selected hunter will be required to have a chaperone accompany them at all times during the hunt. Eligible chaperones must have at least 5 years of deer hunting experience and be 18 years of age or older. Applicants must select their own chaperone (i.e. friend or family), one will not be provided. Chaperones will not be allowed to hunt or carry a firearm during the hunt. Participants will be required to participate in a 2-hour orientation with Jefferson County Park Staff to review the rules of the hunt, hunting boundaries, and parking and property access on Wednesday November 14th, 2012. All other Wisconsin Deer Hunting Rules and regulations will apply. Each hunter will have to have a valid 2012 gun deer license, and will be eligible to harvest a single deer of either sex. Applications: The Jefferson County Parks Department will accept completed applications from qualified hunters October 1st through the 19thth. Applications will be available in person or on our website www.jeffersoncountywi.gov/parks. Applications will be accepted on a first come first served basis. All selected hunters will be notified by October 24th. 5
