The Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) underwent major changes effective July 1, 2001. Only realty-related (fixture) filings are filed with the local register of deeds in the county in which the real estate is located. All other UCC filings are to be made with the Department of Financial Institutions (DFI), Uniform Commercial Code Section, P.O. Box 7847, Madison, WI 53707-7847.
Standard forms may be obtained from the DFI website: http://www.wdfi.org/ucc. Paper forms may be printed, completed and submitted for filing.
Fees for filing realty-related UCC documents are charged according to s. 59.43(2) and are as follows: $30.00 per document.
Only UCC financing statements that affect real estate are filed in the Register of Deeds Office.
