Fire and EMS Population Estimates

Disclaimer:

The population estimates are provided as a service to local Municipalities and the Fire and EMS Districts that serve them. The estimates are based on the most recent (April 2010) census block counts adjusted by the most recent Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) estimates for each municipality. Jefferson County makes no warranties on the accuracy of these estimates which are dependent on US Census and DOA estimates.

Methodology:

Census counts for blocks that are entirely within a district are added to the district total population. Where census blocks along edges of the Fire and EMS Districts are intersected by district boundaries estimates of population are computed by taking addresses in the county Geographic Information System (GIS) on each side of the boundary and apportioning the population by the average number of person per address in the entire block. This is the best possible method available to the county given there is no publicly available data on the number of residents at each address location. The estimates are then adjusted on a yearly basis according to DOA estimates for each municipality. The DOA population estimates for January 1st are finalized in August of each year.
