Dorothy Carnes County Park
The Jefferson County Parks Department provides an opportunity for first time hunters aged 10-14 years old to participate in a limited season gun deer hunt in portions of Dorothy Carnes County Park. The hunt takes place during the specified Wisconsin Gun Deer Hunt. The week is split into two periods with one hunter hunting during each 4 day period with one day off in the middle.
To be eligible for participation in this hunt, applicants must:
Be age 10 by November 18, 2016
Have parental/guardian consent if under age 18.
Have not previously participated in a youth or learn to hunt program.
Have not been issued a deer gun license in 2015 or previous years.
Each selected hunter will be required to have a chaperone accompany them at all times during the hunt. Eligible chaperones must have at least 5 years of deer hunting experience and be 18 years of age or older. Applicants must select their own chaperone (i.e. friend or family), one will not be provided. Chaperones will not be allowed to hunt or carry a firearm during the hunt.
Participants will be required to participate in a 2-hour orientation with Jefferson County Park Staff to review the rules of the hunt, hunting boundaries, and parking and property access on Wednesday November 16th at 6:00 pm. All other Wisconsin Deer Hunting Rules and regulations will apply. Each hunter will have to have a valid 2016 gun deer license, and will be eligible to harvest a single deer of either sex.
The Jefferson County Parks Department will accept completed applications from qualified hunters September 19 through September 30. Applications will be available in person by clicking here: 2016 Youth Hunt Application or in the Parks Office, Room 204, Jefferson County Courthouse. Applications will be accepted on a first come first served basis. All selected hunters will be notified by October 5, 2015.
