Glacial River Trail Bike Trail
Jefferson County offers tremendous biking opportunities on the Glacial River Trail.

The Jefferson County section of the Glacial River Trail offers 15.9 miles of paved, off-road trail as well as 17 miles of on-road, marked sections.  The trail is primarily located along Hwy 26.

Bikers, joggers, walkers, dog walkers and in-line skaters make heavy use of the trail, with some sections within Fort Atkinson plowed during the in the winter months.  The trail passes by farmsteads, prairie flowers, wetlands, woods, over streams, and through an award winning covered bridge.

The trail starts in Rock County and travels the entire north-south corridor of Jefferson County, and further development within the next couple of years will extend the trail into Dodge County, connecting it to the Wild Goose Trail.

The Glacial Drumlin Trail intersects the Glacial River Trail just north of the City of Jefferson.

Interurban Recreation Trail
The Interurban Trail is a proposed, blacktop paved off-road multi-use bike trail that travels from Watertown to Oconomowoc.  The Trail will support people bicycling, people walking, and non-motorized recreational purposes.  It will offer cyclists the opportunity to ride safely from the northern end of the Glacial River Trail in Watertown east to the shores of Lake Michigan connecting along the way to trails such as the Lake Country Trail in Waukesha County and the Hank Aaron Trail in Milwaukee.

In general, the existing We Energies right-of-way corridor will be utilized for the Interurban bike trail route.

Trails like this are good for our local economy, our health, and our environment.  Jefferson County has identified outdoor recreation as a major component of our local economic development activities.  Simply put, people and businesses want to be live and work near these types of trails.

The project will be phased, with the first phase costing approximately $1,400,000.  Jefferson County is attempting to raise $420,000 in private funds to complete the project.

Anyone interested in helping to fund the trail is encouraged to contact Joe Nehmer or Mary Nimm at 920-674-7260 or jeffcoparks@jeffersoncountywi.gov
